Is Nyoyonzi your official name and what does it mean?
‘Nyonyozi’ is my middle name as well as my stage name, and it was given to me by my grandmother. It means ‘star’ in my mother tongue.

When did you decide to take on music as a profession and who has been at the forefront of your support?
I officially became Nyonyozi in December 2011 once I was finished with high school. My biggest support has been THE official support system, my family. I can’t even begin to express the extent to which their support has gone!

What type of music do you do?
Rhythm Poetry, Pop. I can’t describe it!

What instruments do you play?
I play the guitar! I picked it up when I was 15 and I’ve been stuck to it ever since.

How many songs have you had produced so far and why did you put one of your albums “The Beginning EP” up for free download?
Like most musicians, I record a certain amount of material, but only select certain songs for release. About nine songs, including features, are out there in the sounds stratosphere. I also would like to correct you there – I have not released an album (no album yet!), just a three song EP and I felt the songs on ‘Beginning’ should be free.

Are you married, dating or single?
I’d prefer not to answer that.

Stilettoes, wedges or pumps, which suites you better?
Wedges!

What’s your take on the proposed Mini skirt bill in Uganda?
I haven’t been following up on the mini-skirt bill, but I think I’ll reserve my comments.

What artiste would you like to work with?
A lot of musicians, but top of the list would be Kimbra, Foster the People, Mark Ronson, Ryan Tedder/One Republic, Jamie Grace, Quest Love/The Roots/Black Thought, Ruyonga, Frank Tetaz, Gotye, Brooke Fraser, Cold Play/Chris Martin, Dwayne Tryumf and Emeli Sande.

What words can best describe who you are and what you stand for?
Original and Honest.

If you were the president of Uganda what would you change?
I think I’ll reserve my comments there as well!

How do you view yourself five years from today?
Very successful and changing the world!
